Julie is doing well, Bruce says. She's looking good. Alot of pain though, so they have her on mega-pain meds which, of course, are making her somewhat goofy.

So keep thinking the good thoughts for her and I'll let you know when Bruce gives me more news.

Julie's OK!

Just heard from Julie's Bruce... to quote:

The surgeon accomplished
everything that needed doing
-- she's in a good deal of
(the expected) post-surgical
pain, but I got the nurses
on that and it should be
manageable.

Thanks so much for you
concern -- all seems to be
pretty much as good as can
be expected!

Keep those good thoughts and prayers coming, folks! Julie appreciates them SO much!

Oh... I can breathe freely again.

So I'm watching the pre-race show. First they show Kyle Busch (AKA Little Prick) signing things for the fans before the race. He's scowling, not looking at the fans; his hand is just a machine moving over whatever the fan is holding out to be signed. Contrast that to Jeff Gordon who's moving down the line, smiling at the fans, exchanging a word or two; actually looking like he might be enjoying it - even if he's not.

And that is one of the big reasons people - like me - dislike Little Prick with a passion.

Go Tony!!! Go Jr!!!!

Go race, for that matter! *does a little stop the rain dance*

Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence!

1. Eyes that looked anything but sorry less than twenty minutes later as they glanced up at him from below his waist, glittering in the murky light of the single bulb that illuminated the back alley behind the bar.

2. . A low, dank growl came from the darkness and he spun, fist connecting with… something; something hard and covered with slime; something that sent a thread of chill dread shooting through him.

3. It’s also more effective when he has pockets to shove his hands into but his jeans are over there… and it’s getting cold in here… and his ass is bare… and maybe he should just learn to wear goddamned underwear under his jeans… and that wind is fucking loud out there… and the window is rattling… and how come James always has his guitar with him… and where exactly was James right now—

4. He coldly quashes the cynical Lars that’s howling with delighted and amused laughter in one corner of his mind at the predicament Mr. Macho Hetfield has found himself in; and he firmly shuts the door on the smart-ass Lars that wants nothing more than to tell James he doesn’t know what fuckin’ good is until he’s had his dick sucked by a certain Danish drummer, and while he’s at it, could he have the transvestites’ number.

I just spent the last half hour sitting out on the front porch enjoying the sun and the light breeze, mulling fics over in my mind while I sucked on my coffee. It's one of those lovely summer days out there - good for the soul, ya know?

So what have I been up to this week? )

Here's wishing a LOVELY weekend to all my flisties!

evaine_lj: (Bob Whites)
At LAST!!!

Oh, I'm glad the week is over. I can't even begin to tell you how much I dread going to work these days. It's just such a stressful, unpleasant place to be, the only saving grace being the people I work with. Thank God for them, because despite all the cuts, the changes, the rumours, the stress and the complete moronessence (yeah, I know it's not a word, but you get the drift, yeah?), we still find ways to laugh and enjoy each other's company.

Michael and I went grocery shopping after work, as is the norm for every second Friday. Now that's really a chore I hate. I love to shop, but not for groceries. But I did luck into a couple of decent sales. Toilet paper at half price. Bought some even though we didn't need it because one ALWAYS needs TP and it doesn't go bad. *LOL* I also picked up a couple of steaks for a really, really good price. Nice thick steaks too. YUM!! Oh! And Swedish Berries... the things that are taking the place of cigarettes. They were on sale too.

And about the cigs... Well, I'm not doing too bad, I have to say. The first week was easy-peasy. I wasn't at work, I could get up and go for a walk if needs be... or nap. Then I went back to work this week. *RME* I caved. It was either light a cigarette or kill someone. So I made a refined gameplan. I smoke at work. That's 4 smokes. At home, I don't smoke in the house except for one last cigarette before turning out the lights, smoked while I read in bed. That's 3 more cigarettes. So, I'm smoking around 7 or 8 cigs a day. Which is quite the change from near on 30 a day. By the end of the summer, things should have calmed down some at the office and things should be a little less stressful so I'll revisit the plan and hopefully be able to cut the things out completely. So, on the one hand, I'm a little disappointed in myself, but on the other, I'm proud of myself that I didn't just can the whole idea and go back to smoking more than a pack a day.

A little while ago, I decided that I needed to create an LJ for my Trixie Belden fanfic (Hence the usage of the Bob-White icon). I have it up on my website, but at some point I'm not going to want to lay out the money for something I don't update anymore, so I thought an LJ would be a decent idea. So, if you're curious, it's at [livejournal.com profile] trixfic. On the profile page I listed and linked all the chapters and stories for easier navigation. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I sure had fun writing it!

So now it's into the kitchen to make a pot of coffee and then just chill for a bit.

I'm real glad it's the weekend!

And I thought I'd like to do it. *grin*

A New Day

I can't help but think that my American friends and family are standing a little straighter today.

President Obama is an inspiring man and an inspiring leader.

I took the day off so not to miss this moment in history as it unfolds and I don't regret it one little bit. The little girl that spent the first 8 years of her life in the United States still lives inside me, is very proud to claim even that little bit of kinship.

The sun is shining and I hope that it indeed heralds a new day. For Americans and for the world.

Cheers USA!

[livejournal.com profile] sidewinder you rock!! Not only have you run another successful [livejournal.com profile] xmas_rocks and made a whole slew of people as happy as squeeing puppies, you wrote me a WONDERFUL story of drummers!! I had a feeling it was you; your facility with dialogue, your unique story-teller's voice, that it was drummers treated so lovingly - it all felt like you. The detailed knowledge of the artist's tools was the icing on the cake. I think I must have read it at least 10 times by now and I love it each and every time. So THANK YOU again! *HUGE HUGS*

Then there's this which I lifted from [livejournal.com profile] silentinflames...

Your Word is "Love"

You see life as possibility to form deep connections with a few people.

Relationships are the center of your world, and you always take time to bond with those you love.

You are caring and giving. You enjoy helping those you love.

And when it comes to romantic love, you feel passionately ... even in a very long term relationship.

Why do I hear the Beatles' All You Need Is Love in my head right now? *LOL*

Today I hope to write. Thanks to Xmas Rocks as well as discovering a wonderful DC author over the hols, my muses seem to want to return from their sojurn down in Rio. *crossing fingers* Let's hope so!

So I wish all my flisties a calm and relaxing Sunday, doing whatever they WANT to do, not what they HAVE to do!

evaine_lj: (Default)
Hector, WHY do you do this to me? *LOL*

Adopt one today!

I have a freaking dragon egg.

NOW WHAT?

EDT: Okay... seems I need more than one...

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

Oh my!

evaine_lj: (Lars - Ho Ho Ho)
So it's been quite busy around here the last few days... hell, since the beginning of the week. *LOL*

Did all my shopping at the last minute - insane, I know, but that's the way the budget fell, you know? I have to say, going out on Monday and then again on Wednesday wasn't has horrid as I was expecting it to be. Damned economy, I guess. *sigh* I did go out early in the morning though. Monday I was home by 11:30 - Christmas Eve was another story. *LOL*

Christmas Eve, Michael and I have a tradition that we go out for breakfast, just the two of us. Last year and this year, however, we invited his little half-sister to go along with us. This year, she'd just turned 10 and she adores her big brother. And Michael returns the favour. *LOL* So... the three of us went for breaky - and kudos to my ex and his wife, they have no qualms about me taking her for the day - things aren't so easy in a lot of divorced families, this I know. So we had a great breakfast together and then hit the stores. Seeing as it wasn't nuts, it was actually fun, hiding things from Michael, whispering with Victoria. And Michael took her to see Santa Claus... AWWWWW! He really is a good big brother.

By the time we dropped her off, around 3-ish, the weather was turning kind of crappy - rain mixed with snow, so we were glad to get home. Then it was the wrapping marathon. *LOL* I was lucky, I'd finished everything but what I'd bought that day. Michael, of course, hadn't even started. *LOL* Normally my friend JB comes over on Xmas Eve and we have some wine, look at the tree, tease Michael... all that stuff, but with the weather being gross, and both Michael and I being exhausted after our day a-field, we decided it best if JB just comes over on the 26th.

Christmas Day was really nice. Michael and I had a quiet morning, opening gifts and all. Then in the afternoon, we watched Mamma Mia! which is now one of my Top Ten favorite movies. What a HOOT!!! Oh, we laughed so much! And I swear, I was still grinning and humming hours later.

Our Christmas plan this year was to have steaks on Christmas Day, thinking it would be just the two of us and then our turkey on the 26th. At the last minute, his buddy, Jeff, called. He and his girlfriend, Sarah had had a change in plans and were free Xmas night. So... we said, if you have some steaks, come on over and join us! (We'd only expected to see them after this weekend). So they did! We had a nice evening, chatting around the table, enjoying our steaks and baked potatoes. Sarah's finally losing some of her shyness so at last she joined in the conversations. *grin* And then they headed off around 9:30, leaving me time for a nice chat with Julie on IM.

Today is turkey day. It's in the oven now. JB is coming over as well as a trio of Michael's buddies. Malcolm and his girlfriend Chelsea and another fellow, Robbie. And then, thank the Lord, I'll be finished cooking for a while! *LOL*

I got some nice loot, I have to admit. Books, DVDs and CDs that I had been asking for. My Xmas box from Julie, filled with all sorts of treats - coffee beans, little stuffed animals, a flamingo ornament, a Nascar souvenir... all kinds of things to make me grin.

So now I'm going to kick back and relax for a bit, until I have to start thinking about getting the veggies and potatoes ready for supper. And it just occurs to me that I've not eaten anything yet today... no wonder my tummy's grumbly. *grin* So I shall search out something to eat as well.

I'll be needing my second week of vacation to recover from the first!

I hope all of my flist is enjoying this holiday season, whichever holiday you choose to observe, even if it's just good old Time Off. I"m hugging you all real, real tight!

evaine_lj: (Lars - Ho Ho Ho)
EEEP!

I forgot to post my happy thing for yesterday - Day 2. Great way to start, huh? *RME*

ANYWAY...

My happy thing for yesterday was that I had the house all to myself. Michael has gone to spend the weekend at his dad's, to celebrate his little half-sister's 10th birthday, so the place was all my own. Well, mine and the dog's. *LOL* To make it even better, I didn't have to go out in the ARCTIC temeperatures and stayed warm and snug within my walls all day long.

It was really nice.

*grin*

evaine_lj: (Blond Smiling Lars (sunglasses))
[livejournal.com profile] screwthedaisies tagged me for the 8-days meme. The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day. Tag 8 people to do the same.

Well I don't think that there are 8 people left on my flist to tag. *LOL* So... if you've not been tagged by mutual LJ friends, please, meme away!

I have two for today. I guess I can do two, huh?

First off - I'm on VAYKAYSHUN until January 6th! Oh God, it feels SO good!

Secondly, one of the gals at work gave me a little Christmas present today. A lovely, extra-soft, hand-knitted scarf. It took me quite by surprise! She'd been showing off her handiwork to one of the other girls in the office, and I happened to mention that after the holidays, I'd love it if she'd make me one in shades of greens, browns and khakis and I'd pay her for the wool. Well, today, my last day at the office before the holidays, she left one - brightly wrapped - at my desk. I got all teary-eyed. It really touched me.
evaine_lj: (Evaine - Lars Wall)
I've not been posting in here for a while. I've been reading the Flist and posting comments here and on my boards, but life being what it is these days, I seem to have lost the impetus to actually do any posting of my own.

But today I read something I wanted to share with y'all. I found it via a link on Smart Bitches Trashy Books which sent me to this entry over at Murderati, a writing and publishing blog.

The entry touched me so much that I wanted to preserve it, so I'm copying it here in my own LJ for posterity.

Comfort Reading )

Yeah, it touched me.

Why am I not surprised?

*resigned chuckle*

I'm a Doris. )

*dusts off cobwebs and the like*

I really have to get in here more often.
evaine_lj: (Squee)
Shit, it got mighty dusty in here, didn't it?

*grin*

So I ask you, is there a better day than the world release day of Death Magnetic to pick up the long-unused strands of my LJ?

I thought not.

So, I have a bit of a confession to make. Yes, I downloaded the leaked version a week and a half ago. I had already placed my pre-order the week before, so I figured I could cave without guilt. This means I've been listening to it for 10 whole days. Yes, my friends, 10 whole freakin' days of GLORIOUS Metallica Thick Chunky Metal Music!

What do I think? HELL YEAH!!! That's what I think, fellow babies! I have to admit, it's a lot to take in the first few times around. Can those boys EVER write a simple little song? No fucking way, my friends. I'd already grown to love "The Day That Never Comes" since the release of the single - liking it the first time I heard it, in a few spots REALLY liking it - and that was to be the way of the whole album. Each time I hear one of the songs, I grow to love it more and more. I've been playing it in the car to and from work every day, windows down and volume cranked, scaring the mundanes all over the place. *LOL*

It's like... all the years of Metallica rolled up together and infused with the same youth and vigor of the early albums. No, it's not a remake of Puppets or Justice - not at all. It's that sound, flavoured with some of the funk and groove of the Loads, spiced with some of the in-your-face emotion of Anger, beefed up with the chunk-a-chunk heavy of the Black Album and wrapped up with a joyous maturity that tells me the boys are having one helluva good time.

I'M LOVING THIS RECORD!

My highlights so far? I'm feeling particular love for "The Judas Kiss" today (it's all about a couple of those drum bits). "Broken, Beat & Scarred" just screams out for me write fic. And I have no words to explain how I feel about "The Unforgiven III" except for... I die a good little death each time I hear it.

It just gets awesommer and awesommer (I don't care, it's a word to me!) each time I listen and I'm feeling SUCH envy for my flisties who are going to see the boys over in England - you KNOW who you are. *grin*

Summing up - this record KICKS MAJOR ASS! I knew my Met boys wouldn't let me down and by God, they did not!

And yes, my pre-ordered physical CD arriving today, as promised, was the icing on the cake. I'm a happy, happy Met fan!
evaine_lj: (Reno Madness)
Some folks have been asking for updates on the reno, and I realise I haven't done any in a LONG time. So I snapped some pics this evening.

The kitchen is almost finished - there's only the window frame around the front-facing windows left to do. That has to wait because we have water problems when all the ice and snow on the roof melts. *sigh*

Pics under the cut )

God, I want it to be DONE!!
