Tonight I go to see Metallica.

METALLICA!!!

For the first time ever!

I will be in the same enclosed space as Lars! I will be breathing the same air as Lars, James, Kirk and Rob! (Never mind the tons of other people. *LOL*)

I am FINALLY beginning to get excited because the day I thought would never come is HERE!!!!

I'M SEEING METALLICA IN LESS THAN 12 HOURS!!!!!
evaine_lj: (Squee)
Shit, it got mighty dusty in here, didn't it?

*grin*

So I ask you, is there a better day than the world release day of Death Magnetic to pick up the long-unused strands of my LJ?

I thought not.

So, I have a bit of a confession to make. Yes, I downloaded the leaked version a week and a half ago. I had already placed my pre-order the week before, so I figured I could cave without guilt. This means I've been listening to it for 10 whole days. Yes, my friends, 10 whole freakin' days of GLORIOUS Metallica Thick Chunky Metal Music!

What do I think? HELL YEAH!!! That's what I think, fellow babies! I have to admit, it's a lot to take in the first few times around. Can those boys EVER write a simple little song? No fucking way, my friends. I'd already grown to love "The Day That Never Comes" since the release of the single - liking it the first time I heard it, in a few spots REALLY liking it - and that was to be the way of the whole album. Each time I hear one of the songs, I grow to love it more and more. I've been playing it in the car to and from work every day, windows down and volume cranked, scaring the mundanes all over the place. *LOL*

It's like... all the years of Metallica rolled up together and infused with the same youth and vigor of the early albums. No, it's not a remake of Puppets or Justice - not at all. It's that sound, flavoured with some of the funk and groove of the Loads, spiced with some of the in-your-face emotion of Anger, beefed up with the chunk-a-chunk heavy of the Black Album and wrapped up with a joyous maturity that tells me the boys are having one helluva good time.

I'M LOVING THIS RECORD!

My highlights so far? I'm feeling particular love for "The Judas Kiss" today (it's all about a couple of those drum bits). "Broken, Beat & Scarred" just screams out for me write fic. And I have no words to explain how I feel about "The Unforgiven III" except for... I die a good little death each time I hear it.

It just gets awesommer and awesommer (I don't care, it's a word to me!) each time I listen and I'm feeling SUCH envy for my flisties who are going to see the boys over in England - you KNOW who you are. *grin*

Summing up - this record KICKS MAJOR ASS! I knew my Met boys wouldn't let me down and by God, they did not!

And yes, my pre-ordered physical CD arriving today, as promised, was the icing on the cake. I'm a happy, happy Met fan!

Whee Heee!

Ecstasy of Gold is nominated for Best Rock Instrumental (I think that's the correct title) Grammy Award!

That was unexpected. *grin*

Not a huge thing, but it made my day!

YAY boys!!!

Hmmm... haven't posted in a while, have I?

It's been pretty much same-old, same-old here in Montreal. Winter's coming. The temperature has dipped below 0C/32F on more than one occasion and there have been tiny little flurries glimpsed and felt by yours truly. I'm not fond of winter, I must admit. I had to go out to Zellers on Friday and pick myself up a scarf and a pair of gloves, which didn't please me, but all my winter stuff is still in storage - at the BACK of the storage space - and will be for at least another 3 - 4 weeks. Have I mentioned lately that my ex works VERY slowly? *sigh*

My God, I got wordy! )

So that's the news from Montreal. *grin*

This review of last night's performance at the Bridge Street School Benefit has me squeeing all over the place.

From Met on Tour )

All those covers! I may just have to make my first Met on Tour download purchase. *grin*

While sitting here at the computer, enjoying my third cup of coffee of the day, I thought I'd just let the old brain dump out stuff. *LOL* I have to head out to do errands a little later, but until then I'm feeling a bit of a ramble is in order.

Ramble on, if you dare... )

Okay... brain has dumped enough, I think. Coffee mug is empty and I must head out and get my errands accomplished.

Later all!

OMG!!

It's been a while since I checked in with y'all. I've been so tired and brain-dead that it's taken all that I have to keep up with reading the Rockfic message board and my flist.

Long and rambling post under here... )

And I think I'm about yakked out now. *LOL* I've probably forgotten something vital that I wanted to say, however. But hey! I could post again if I did, right? *chuckling* Yeah, yeah, I'm going now.

*hugs flist* I appreciate all the encouragement and support you've given me through the beginning of this reno process! Thank you!!

evaine_lj: (Here's Looking At You)
It's Sunday morning, closing in on 8:30 and I've been up for half an hour already. I just don't sleep well in a new bed.

Michael and I are now installed in our motel. The day from hell is now history. Not that the clearing and moving is totally finished, not by any means. But the HUGE part of it is done. Just about all the furniture and belongings from my house are now in storage and my house is actually echoing! *LOL*

Yesterday was incredibly stressful. Getting the furniture out of the house and over to Storage Central via Ben's small trailer was probably NOT the most optimum of choices. I'm actually thinking of renting an actual truck for when we bring the stuff back. Alain and JB arrived at about 9:30 yesterday morning and Ben arrived closer on 10:00. Mike's buddy Jeff had spent the night, so he was out and about with me, getting coffee and donuts from Tim Horton's, and water and Powerade from the IGA. Of course by the time we got started doing stuff, it was already after 11:00 because we had to do the chatting thing, right?

Anyway, I won't bore you all with the details, but suffice to say, it was a hectic, stressful, messy day. By the time Michael and I said goodbye to Alain and JB in the parking lot of the local restaurant around 9:00 in the evening, I was ready to drop. But I still had to go back to the house and pick up a few things we needed for our first night in the motel. Ben and Jeff had left the restaurant earlier because Ben had a longish drive home (he lives about an hour away) and they were both toast (Ben was dropping Jeff off at his house on the way.).

Here at the motel, we have an okay little place. Two actual bedrooms, each furnished with a single bed and a double bed and a sink (?). Now... a sink in the bedroom? A little odd, but hey, it might be useful. The main room is a kitchen. Big kitchen. Fully functional with a stove, microwave, fridge and of course, some plates, pots and pans and stuff. The downside of this is that there's only a kitchen table with 4 chairs and a desk with another chair to relax in. After about 15 minutes sitting in the kitchen chair last night, I decided that I'm bringing my computer chair over instead of putting it in the storage. My back will not stand it! *LOL*

As you can surmise, we have (wireless) internet access. YAY!!! I would have been MOST royally pissed had it not worked, let me tell you. Michael has his desktop set up in his bedroom and I'm sitting at the kitchen table on Biff, the little laptop. I think I'll be bringing over my desktop seeing as there's a desk here in the kitchen. There's a small TV in the kitchen which has minimum cable access. It gets all the major channels, but most of the specialty ones are in French which cuts down my options. Yes, I'm a big TV watcher, so this will be a bit of a hardship for me. *LOL* I shall be missing my Much Loud and Much Retro music video channels, that's for sure!

So we're settling in, slowly but surely. It'll do for 4 weeks. On the agenda for today is returning to the house (10 minutes away) and getting together the rest of what we want to bring over here. Setting aside stuff that has to go in the dumpster when it arrives tomorrow, and sorting out the little bits still left to go into storage. It'll just be me and Michael, so the stress level will be greatly reduced from yesterday.

In news other than the reno, I was able to catch Metallica as they played their set yesterday, as well as the jam with Spinal Tap. May I just say that I thought they were TERRIFIC! James sounded wonderful (okay, he cracked a time or two, but damn, the way he shouts? Not surprised. *LOL*) and the multiple shots from behind of the famed Hetfield Stance were truly delicious. And my drummer? I'll just say there was much squeeing and flailing happening. *grin* I really hope the recording worked alright on the PVR. Of course, I didn't have time to check yesterday evening.

Two more weeks of work before my vacation and Julie's arrival. I can't WAIT! I've had more than enough of work and will be VERY pleased to wave good-bye to it for 3 weeks, let me tell you! And, of course, seeing Julie is going to be fantastic! She arrives from PA the evening of the 20th and is staying for the whole 3 weeks! YAY!!!

Alright, time to get my head together and think about the projects of today. It's going to be another busy one!

*Flailing*

So here I am, in the middle of my weeks' vacation and I figure it's probably time for a bit of an Ev update on stuff.

So what have I been up to? )

So, I guess the rest of my vacation will be spent in reading, writing, watching and listening. Add to that, no alarm clock, and it's pretty much a perfect week off, doncha think?

evaine_lj: (Bitchin')
You know... I may never open the damned thing! LOOK at how hot the drummer looks! Damn, he's fine!

I shall now commence calendar watch. Metstore says it's coming soon, in time for the holidays.

Well, I've FINALLY set up my community for my Pathway to Madness, otherwise known as The Fanfic 100. *LOL* It's where I'm going to be posting my stories and drabbles for the challenge. Of course, I'll be posting the Rockfic-worthy ones at Rockfic as well. *grin* If you're interested, it's here... [livejournal.com profile] evaines_100.

In other news, I'm heading out to Future Shop to pick up another DVD. Yesterday I picked up "Later - Even Louder" which is a compilation of various artists performances on the "Later" show hosted by Jools Holland who, Ang tells me, is a jazz pianist over in Britain. Why did I pick it up? Well, 'cause it's got Metallica on it of course! And I found out that another one - "Later - Louder" - ALSO has the boyos on it. So... it's back out I go. Oh... they're performing 'King Nothing' on the one I have. On the one I'm heading out for, I don't know what they're performing but the blurb on the insert says that there's also an interview! Yeah... I know - wave Met under my nose and I'm hauling out the wallet. *LOL*

So, I'm off to put a load of laundry in and then it's out the door! Later!
evaine_lj: (Pretty Eyes)

I've decided to attempt NaNoWriMo once again.  This will be the third time.  First time around, I only made it about 30K words.  Last year, I did it.  Went over 50K words of utter drek - but hey, I did it, right?  So, I'm going to try again this year.

I've decided on a plot - okay, a sorta plot.  *LOL*  AU Metallica.  Yeah, what else?  I see you all rolling your eyes.  *chuckle*  But I want to write something fun, that will keep my interest for the month, something that won't be a chore to go back to every day.

My idea owes a nod to  [livejournal.com profile] madandy 's  fabulous "Legends" epic.  I think this was the first rock band AU that I read, and I enjoyed it mightily.  Showed me that it could be done and done well.  And then the idea of a Tallica AU began to tickle the back of my mind.

One of my favorite movies is The Magnificent Seven.  Let me enumerate here...  James, Lars, Kirk, Tru, Jason, Cliff and Dave.  I count 7, don't you?  *grin*   Set this baby in the equivalent of 13th century Britain, throw in some fantasy elements, evil false king Axl of the Rose, cold nights by the campfire, long legs in hose - *grin* - stir it all together and see what bubbles up.

So, I have a little over a month to create characters, settings, jot down ideas for scenes.  Let's hope that come November 1st I'm still as keen on this.  *LOL*

You know, I really wish I could draw, because some of the pictures I see in my mind's eye of the boys kitted out in their way-back-then costumes...  droolsome, just freakin' droolsome!

So, that'd be my plan.  Nano... watch out!

Ooh... I should make a couple of Nano icons, shouldn't I?  *grin*

evaine_lj: (Chekt It Out)

Yippeee!  The 'Tallica boys are in the studio, taping their voices for an upcoming Simpson's episode to be aired in May of next year.  It's wonderful to see them out and about (to be Canadian about it.  *LOL*) - now, if they'd only get into the studio!

Bad Metclub member that I am, I cheesed some pics.  I'm gonna put it in here because - well - *LOL* - it makes me feel less guilty.  Damned Roman Catholic upbringing!

Dear me, I'm liking my Lars with his beard and 'stache!  He looks cuddly!  But I see... *sigh*... James is still overly fond of the motor oil in his hair.  AND the hamster on his chin.  Still a handsome piece of work though, ain't he?  Kirk and Tru are looking buff as well!
