I just spent the last half hour sitting out on the front porch enjoying the sun and the light breeze, mulling fics over in my mind while I sucked on my coffee. It's one of those lovely summer days out there - good for the soul, ya know?

So what have I been up to this week? )

Here's wishing a LOVELY weekend to all my flisties!

And I thought I'd like to do it. *grin*

Yeah, I'm going to have a little talk with myself, a little scold, and we'll get to posting regularly in here again. *grin*

I'm so glad I took my birthday off. Winter has hit us and I'm EXTREMELY pleased not to have be driving in this stuff.

Here's the view from the front of my house... )

... along with two CDs that were on my wish list - State of Shock's Life, Love & Lies and Mika's Life in Cartoon Motion. I discovered State of Shock (Canadian band out of Vancouver) this past spring and have been looking forward to this, their second album. And Mika, well, he just makes me smile and that's good!

evaine_lj: (HOwdy)
Hmmm... haven't posted in a while, have I?

It's been pretty much same-old, same-old here in Montreal. Winter's coming. The temperature has dipped below 0C/32F on more than one occasion and there have been tiny little flurries glimpsed and felt by yours truly. I'm not fond of winter, I must admit. I had to go out to Zellers on Friday and pick myself up a scarf and a pair of gloves, which didn't please me, but all my winter stuff is still in storage - at the BACK of the storage space - and will be for at least another 3 - 4 weeks. Have I mentioned lately that my ex works VERY slowly? *sigh*

My God, I got wordy! )

So that's the news from Montreal. *grin*

evaine_lj: (I Think - Billie)
From Chez [livejournal.com profile] sidewinder:

Comment here and I'll give you a band (you can pick a music genre for me to choose from, or not). Then you list your ten favorite songs by that band in your lj.

The band that 'Winder gave me was Green Day

10 fave songs and some reasons why )

God, that was tough! I love so many of them.

And all in all, it's the Green Day sound, the slight boppiness even in the angriest or saddest song that I love. And Billie's voice, if I haven't mentioned it enough. *LOL* That's what first attracted me to Green Day way back when and why I still love them.

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] jetblackmirror and thought it might be fun...

Comment with one of my fandoms, or a character/pairing in a fandom, and I'll reply with anywhere from 1 to 5 songs (depending on the level of hopeless obsession) that remind me of that fandom/character/pairing, as well as an explanation as to why I connect it with that band/show/book/etc.

It's the weekend, folks!!

Gacked this baby from all over the flist -

List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your Livejournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

Sanitarium - Metallica - It has slowly crept up my favorite Met songs list until now, it's one of my top 3. I love to blast it at full volume in the parking lots of malls with the windows down and scaring the mundanes. *LOL*

The Ecstasy of Gold - Metallica - New Met, 'nuff said.

Working Class Hero - Green Day - This is one of the best remakes of any Beatles/Lennon songs EVER.

This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race - Fall Out Boy - It's my shame. *blush*

Rock, Hallelujah - Lordi

Fade To Black (acoustic version) - Metallica

No Cars Go - The Arcade Fire

If there's anyone out there who hasn't done it and wants to - have at it, chums!! *grin*
evaine_lj: (Burned Out)
It's been a while since I checked in with y'all. I've been so tired and brain-dead that it's taken all that I have to keep up with reading the Rockfic message board and my flist.

Long and rambling post under here... )

And I think I'm about yakked out now. *LOL* I've probably forgotten something vital that I wanted to say, however. But hey! I could post again if I did, right? *chuckling* Yeah, yeah, I'm going now.

*hugs flist* I appreciate all the encouragement and support you've given me through the beginning of this reno process! Thank you!!

evaine_lj: (Flamingis - Did You Know)
I saw this in [livejournal.com profile] sidewinder's journal and it looked like fun.

Comment and I'll give you a letter. In your journal, list 10 of your favorite songs that begin with that letter.

'Winder tagged me with an 'E" for Evaine. So... in no particular order...

1. Ecstasy of Gold - Metallica (cover of Ennio Morricone)
2. Every Breath You Take - The Police
3. Elvis on Velvet - The Stray Cats
4. Extrordinary Girl - Green Day
5. Every Time I See Your Picture - Luba
6. Edie (Ciao Baby) - The Cult
7. Enter Sandman - Metallica
8. Everlong - Foo Fighters
9. Evenflow - Pearl Jam
10. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic - The Police

Well, that wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. *grin* I could have added another 5 easily.

I just finished the first draft of a 4500 word fic that may not ever see the light of day. Be that as it may, the important thing is that I wrote 4500+ words and finished a fic! It's one of those stories that eats your brain until you can actually get it out and into a Word file, a story that won't leave you alone until you tell it. And dammit, I'm happy with it. Oh, it needs some loving care, tweaking and fine-tuning, all that good editing stuff... but dammit, I like it. *LOL*

It seems, however, that there's a fuck-ton more of a story to tell. A character who has decided that HIS POV is just as important as anyone else's. Why did I think this was going to be an easy, one-shot deal? I didn't WANT a multi-parter, but it appears that I'm gonna get one.

I also discovered, that for writing this angsty-ish, introspective type fic, the music that works for me is accoustic Foo Fighters and accoustic Godsmack. Which brings up the random observation from me that my OTP's theme song is Cyndi Lauper's True Colours and that I really should make myself some writing-specific playlists for when I'm working on my fics.

Well, now I have a couple of errands to run and then, maybe I'll sit and play with the first draft of what I've written.

Season's finale of Heroes tonight! I can hardly wait!! If they off Peter, I'm gonna be SO pissed!

Just Stuff

So here I am, in the middle of my weeks' vacation and I figure it's probably time for a bit of an Ev update on stuff.

So what have I been up to? )

So, I guess the rest of my vacation will be spent in reading, writing, watching and listening. Add to that, no alarm clock, and it's pretty much a perfect week off, doncha think?

Shamelessly gacked from [livejournal.com profile] tasyfa.

You are Barefoot!

You're a total free spirit, go with the flow girl
You can't be restricted by shoes for very long
And unsuprisingly, the same goes for men
Your match is out there - and he's as carefree as you are

Yep, barefoot, the ONLY way to be! *grin*

I've been fussing with my music for the past week or so. Making playlists, ripping CDs into iTunes and the like. I swear, in the past couple of years, I've gone totally insane with beefing up my music collection. I guess it's because for so long I let the ex do the music buying and pretty much dictating what we'd listen to. I know, sad, isnt' it? *RME* But I've been getting over that pretty damned good by the looks of the CD shelves and stand.

I lucked into a bargain today. Seasons 1, 2 and 3 of Babylon 5 on DVD for $35 a pop. Seeing as the ex got the Bab 5 DVD collection in the divorce (well, I HAD bought them for him for Christmas and birthday gifts, so I guess it was only fair. *LOL*), I figured it was time to replace them. Hell, at that price I'd have been nuts NOT to! You know makes me wonder... I must look out for Garibaldi/G'Kar or Marcus/Lenier slash... hmmmm.... *grin*

Am I total a wussling because I really like When It's Over by Sugar Ray?
evaine_lj: (Lars on the Sofa)
Snagged this one from [livejournal.com profile] funkycanuck and [profile] stonefinder and thought it might be fun.

Lots o' Questions )

*PHEW* That was a long one!
evaine_lj: (Boys on Steps)

It's 1:00 PM and I haven't been propagated yet.  *SIGH*

I should be used to this by now - we ALWAYS get things late up here in Canada.  Especially in Quebec.  Whether it be TV shows, new music releases, new book releases, the newest breakfast cereal, the newest flavour of Coke - whatever, it always seems to be available here after everyone else.  I am getting email notifications of new posts in topics I'm subscribed to, but when I click the link it tells me the post does not exist and when I go to the board directly from my bookmark, there's no message from  [livejournal.com profile] rockfic  in the Announcements forum telling me the happy news.

So I try and be patient. NOT one of my fortes, I'm afraid.

There's all kinds of little things I want to try and get done today, but I'll bet I don't get to most of them.  *LOL*  Seems to be my favorite modus operandi - procrastinating.  But I'm not going to list them, because that almost ensures that they won't get done!

Recently I ripped some tunes from my Nylons CDs into my iTunes.  Over the past year I had sort of put them aside in my rediscovery of the hard rock/metal genre.  I had forgotten how much I loved this music.  Acappella.  Right at the moment, I'm listening to their version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and I'm being blown away all over again.  Beautiful sounding stuff, really.  In the past, I've seen this quartet (well, the early line-ups) live many, many times - even met the fellows a few times.  Yeah, I was a Nylons groupie.  *grin*  Wrote them into one of my 7 Brides fanfics too.  I have their first 6 or 7 CDs (I have the first few on vinyl as well) and believe me, those CDs are well-played.  My three friends and I actually put together an acappela group to perform in our annual curling club shows back in the day.  I laugh that I can't sing, but with coaching and lots of practice, I can actually do a decent job of staying on key.  The Nylons' version of "Up On The Roof" is one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time.  And I have to say, when it plays and then segues into "For Whom the Bells Toll" or "Battery" or "Some Kind of Monster" on the iTunes, it makes for a very interesting transition.  *LOL*

Okay... gonna go try and get a few things done.  *snort*  What a laugh, you all KNOW how far I'm gonna get with that.
