This 'n' That for a Sunday

Hmmm... haven't posted in a while, have I?
It's been pretty much same-old, same-old here in Montreal. Winter's coming. The temperature has dipped below 0C/32F on more than one occasion and there have been tiny little flurries glimpsed and felt by yours truly. I'm not fond of winter, I must admit. I had to go out to Zellers on Friday and pick myself up a scarf and a pair of gloves, which didn't please me, but all my winter stuff is still in storage - at the BACK of the storage space - and will be for at least another 3 - 4 weeks. Have I mentioned lately that my ex works VERY slowly? *sigh*
The renovation moves apace, albeit a very slow pace. This week he concentrated on the basement, Michael's new room. He finished up all the electricity rough-in throughout the house. The house has been totally re-wired, which is quite frankly a relief, because the things Ben found in the walls were downright scary at times. It's amazing we never had a fire. The previous (and only other) owner of the house was a great do-it-yourself wannabe who had no clue about electricity, it seems. But now, that's done. The sub-floor is done in the basement as well, and he also managed to get up the 1' X 3's that the ceiling gyproc will be fastened to. This coming week sees more plumbing on the horizon, the kitchen counter should arrive and maybe.. . just maybe, I'll get my sink in the kitchen and actually have running water in there. *crosses fingers* And the dishwasher might even get hooked up. I have these 3 lovely new appliances sitting in the kitchen: washer, dryer and dishwasher, and none of them can be used. It's KILLING me! Ah well, things are moving forward at least.
On my music listening front, I have been immersed in the Bridge School Benefit downloads I purchased from Met on Tour. I swear, the guys sound SO amazingly good! I'm loving their version of Rare Earth's I Just Wanna Celebrate and wonder if that's Robert's influence making itself shown. I know he loves the funk. And every time I actually sit and listen to Brothers In Arms I get a little lump in my throat. A beautiful and emotional rendition. Another big surprise for me was Met's own All Within My Hands. Never one of my favorite cuts from St. Anger, in this stripped down, bare-boned version it's become one of my most favorite Metallica songs. My boys never cease to amaze me. *grin*
I've also been listening some to the new Foos, Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace. It's growing on me. I really wish I hadn't read all the comparisons to Neil Young, because I really, really dislike Neil Young's whiny voice and I think the comments and observations biased me in the beginning. Now, I'm thinking that this album carries on some of the feel of Skin and Bones, which I really like. The Neil Young stuff fades with every listen I give ESP&G and that's a very good thing - for me. *grin* I've also been quite enjoying my rediscovery of Matchbox 20. As of this post, 3 AM has actually made it into my writing playlist, and I know a couple of others will be added to the list as well. I love Rob's voice.
I received my
xmas_rocks assignment this week. Outside my comfort zone? You bet! *LOL* But I am excited. It's a challenge and one I believe I'm up for. I'll need to be doing some research and maybe hit
hector_rashbaum's Prompt Machine to spark some ideas, but I'm feeling pretty positive about the whole thing. And wouldn't you know, the boys in my epic have chosen now to become a little more forthcoming. *rolling eyes* Isn't that always the way?
And lastly? Well, I got a haircut. I'd been toying with the idea for a while, but my hairdresser of over 20 years closed up shop last spring and I've been hesitant and leery of trying someone new. With Chantal I could go in and say, "Have at it." and know that whatever cut or colour she'd come up with would be just fine by me. However, Friday the bug bit me. Out I went to the mall, and what do you know, the salon in the mall was quiet and of course they could take me right away. "Cut it." I said. "Short. I want short and easy." So that's what Carmen, the gal that met me at the counter, did. And here's the result...

It's shorter than I've had it in DECADES. And easy? Hell, I can just run my fingers through it when I wake up and I'm good for the day. *LOL* And if I want something a little more fancy, some product and a bit of a blow dry is all it takes. Of course, this means I'd have to buy a new blowdryer. *LOL*
So that's the news from Montreal. *grin*
