Only 4 More Days 'Til Vaykayshun!!

And BOY am I gonna need it. *LOL*

Not that it's going to be all rest and relaxation - far from it! I have to put my sweat equity into the house. But at least I won't have to be doing it after a full, full, FULL day at the office! And I'll have my best bud up visiting and giving me a hand and just generally keeping my spirits from plummeting.

Yup, not only is it 4 days until vacation, but it's only 4 days 'til Julie arrives! YAY!!!

Here's my living room, taken from the entranceway to the kitchen.

My bedroom. We decided it would be easier to leave the bed and work around it, rather than break it down and store it. It's a waterbed, you see.

As Julie said when she saw the pictures, the house is just about down to its bare bones!

Demolition started today in earnest. After work, I was able to take out a whole bunch of nails and even a couple of small panels of gyproc. Go me! *LOL* I couldn't stand the dust for long, with this asthma shit I've developed. Ben's going to pick up a mask for me, and one for Michael and one for Julie. He thought he had some, but he couldn't find them.

So, work is proceeding apace - we've already filled one half-dumpster and have begun today on a second one. Garbage day was today, and last night, someone climbed into the first one and took out the old built-in oven and countertop stove. *RME* More fuckin' power to them! I hated them both and for chrissakes, that oven was closing in on 50 years old as it was original to the house! I assume, or at least I hope, they were taking them for the scrap metal, 'cause God knows they aren't worth much else! *LOL*

So that'd be the news from Mental-Reno. I can't actually believe we've actually begun after all this time!

Oh man. It's astonishing how quickly a space can go from liveable to OMG! Can't wait to see how it ends up. Also, because these are the sorts of things I notice in houses, you've got some lovely views from a couple of your windows.

OMG! is a very apt description. *LOL* You know, I STILL don't believe it's happening. *RME* God knows what it'll take!

I'm very lucky, I live in a suburb of the suburbs, in a place that was once termed cottage country. We have TONS of big, mature trees all over. It's great! In our front yard there are two fir trees that are at least 30+ feet tall.

*eep* Wow, rampant destruction. LOL. No, it's actually great that you're already well into ripping stuff apart. Can't put it back together until after that! ;-)

You want to talk rampant destruction, wait until you see the Week 2 pictures! I would love to be ripping apart more myself, but unfortunately, vacation only begins this Friday. *grin*

Wow! I love (other people's) remodeling projects. I'm glad you're posting pictures!

[identity profile] evaine.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to post every week while Mental Reno is in progress. *grin* And if there's something absolutely spectacular, I'll make a special update. It still seems as if it's happening to someone else, I have to admit.

Oooh, wow! Though I am kind of cringing a bit at the bathroom, if only because ours kinda resembles it right now (right down to the paint on the walls, holy shit). I wouldn't be too surprised if you got yours finished before we did... *eyeroll*

P.S. If you get a couple of minutes...

[identity profile] evaine.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
That bathroom that you see is on it's way to becoming a powder room - sink and toilet. I have waited almost 30 years to have a second toilet in my home! *grin*

I've quickly skimmed your link... but I want to go back and read it better. What ARE you doing to my drummer!!! *grin* I will tell you this right now... makes me froth at the bit to get back to my own writing! Good stuff does that!

[identity profile] seanlily.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
gee, don't know why you want to remodel it looks great as is!!!hehehe
quite a project, and great views from the windows

[identity profile] evaine.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's quite a project that's scaring me to bits! *LOL* But I am excited too. *grin* The house has had basically nothing done but a few coats of paint since it was built back in 1959, so... it's far past time!

I'm digging the tree wallpaper in the hallway, but that's probably going, huh? Looks like you've made a good start of it!

[identity profile] evaine.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, it's going. *LOL* I think it might even be original - it was under the sheet paneling that was on the walls - ALL the walls - when I bought the place with my first husband back in '79. It's in the vestibule too, BTW, in different shades. *grin*

We started remodeling the upstairs bathroom - um - early last year? It might be finished before Christmas. Maybe. If I'm lucky.

(You have really gorgeous trees to look at.)

You're making excellent progress and I can't wait to see the ongoing efforts. Just be careful with that asthma.

[identity profile] evaine.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Aiyeee! Christmas? YIKES!!

As I said above, I live in a place that was once considered 'out in the county' and all the streets have lovely, full, mature trees. It's one of the reasons I wanted to live here in Pincourt, it's so pretty!

And I'm watching my asthma. Michael's watching it for me too. As is Ben. I got kicked out of the upstairs rooms yesterday evening because it was too dusty. *LOL*

And I WILL be keeping y'all updated as things go on. It's amazing how much they've done already this week!

[identity profile] and-ed.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. What a huge job! I'm glad you're posting pics. It will be cool to see what it looks like when its all done. Good luck! =)

[identity profile] evaine.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! So far there have been a few little surprises, but nothing that can't be handled and dealt with. *crossing fingers*

And it IS huge - almost a full gut, you know? Scares the piss out of me if I stop and think about it! *LOL*

Pictures! I can swing a virtual hammer at a virtual wall for you :)

[identity profile] evaine.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Come on over! *grin* All hammers are welcome at this point.

Thank God for digital cameras, you know? They make the documenting that much easier as well as the sharing! *grin*
