I Must Be Part Masochist

Looking for a chuckle, I headed over to [livejournal.com profile] fuckyou_fandom thanks to a post by [livejournal.com profile] looking_spiffy. I don't know why I do this to myself. Sporking, anon or otherwise, truly gets under my skin in the worst way. But that's for another rant.

Today's rant? People, if you're going to criticise authors, no matter how bad they may be, you'd look a fuck of a lot more credible if you knew where the "shift" key was on your keyboard as well as learning to spell, punctuate and NOT use fucking chat-speak! I'm sorry... I can't take anyone who does chat-speak seriously. It screams ignorance (in the true sense of the word) to me. And when people who profess to be writers use it, be they amateur or not, it just makes it that much worse. Where's the pride in your OWN words? In my honest opinion, you are no better than the people you're flaming. I mean, Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, people! It's as if you're criticising someone's new haircut while your own snarl of matted locks haven't been washed in 3 weeks. Quite possibly the would-be writers you're calling out (behind a veil of anonymity) are the worst things fandom has ever seen, but your opinions carry no weight with me because your writing is just as awful.

Yes, I'm old, cranky and anal... and my fucking feet hurt!

See, and I just got bored by it all - after I'd skimmed through looking for my name. What? You never know :p

Pee Ess: Didja see the results show? Didja didja? Huh Huh Huh??????

I'm so late in my responses! I blame it on all those lovely recs in [livejournal.com profile] al_teregoz's post of the other night.

But I wanted to say - I didn't by ANY means do more than skim the original comments, it was rare that I threaded to read all the responses. God, I felt like I was in high school - or middle school - most of the time. *LOL*

And I didn't get to watch the results show - being here at the motel, I have no way to tape and watch something else or do my favorite TV-watching thing of time-shifting, so I had to make a choice between Big Brother (yes, I'm addicted to that too) and the results show. Seeing as I can find out the results online, that's what I do. I was THRILLED to see that finally Martha Joy was sent packing! No more Celine Dionish clones left! YAY!!!!

Not surprisingly, I'm not much for sporking either. The only thing in there that I've ever considered valid grounds for complaining about is story abandonment. Which I've seen both sides of, and understand very well, so... *sigh* Everything else, I basically consider to be personal attacks. There's a back button and a scroll button for a reason, people. If there'd been anything even APPROACHING real concrit, it might've been more than a total waste of space and time.

Yep, you are right! *nodding* (Although having read some of what's posted in CC, I have to admit to having a few of the same feelings as some of the posters.)

As for story abandonment, like you, I've been on both sides of the coin and it's no fun for either the reader OR the author. Which is why I've determined to get a few chapters of The Project under my belt before even beginning to think about posting it.

My biggest pet peeve though, is bad punctuation, no shift key use and misspelling in a public forum. It actually makes me snarl at times. *LOL* As you could see.

How am I supposed to resist checking out a community called [livejournal.com profile] fuckyou_fandom? LOL.

But I agree with you on chatspeak. It's annoying and it makes the person sound immature to say the least.

And for me, it seems somehow more of a crime when it's used in a writing community.

I have this writing community on my RSS feed and it's called "Riters R Us." They have good posts sometimes, but every time I see the name, I cringe a little. *sigh*
