Funny... I still feel 30. *grin*
You know, when I was younger I could never imagine reaching this lofty age - I'd look at my mom, who turned 50 when I was 14 - and think... that's so OLD! But I don't feel as old as I remember her being. I swear, in my head I'm still in my early 30s most of the time.
50 means I'm closer to being able to retire (I can go at 55 if I want - with um... 34 years of service at the phone company), it means I have to tick a new box on all those surveys that want your age bracket, it means I'm starting a new decade and that always fills me with a bit of excitement. Okay, so it means I need reading glasses and I need to dye my hair more and more often to cover up the grey - so what? I'm enjoying so many things that most people would attribute to a younger in years woman - loud rock music, comics, writing homoerotic RP band slash, collecting flamingos, getting tattooed, watching off-beat and silly movies, reading great fantasy epics amongst other things.
No staid and quiet middle-age for Evaine here! I mean, I have Metallica's One as the ringtone on my new cellphone, for chrissakes! That's so far from staid and quiet. *LOL*
So I have a full afternoon. I must get some coffee beans - I'm running dangerously low - and some wine to enjoy with supper tonight. Mike and I are going to order in Chinese food. Me cook? HAH!! And I'm off to get my birthday tattoo - a special design created for just this day by
madandy. A design to mark this stage in my life, where I have finally acheived some measure of success with my writing and where I'm finally coming to terms with this wacky gal that's me and finding out that she's not so bad after all.
Today, life is good.
