*Brushing Away the Cobwebs*
Sep. 12th, 2008 09:09 pmShit, it got mighty dusty in here, didn't it?
*grin*
So I ask you, is there a better day than the world release day of Death Magnetic to pick up the long-unused strands of my LJ?
I thought not.
So, I have a bit of a confession to make. Yes, I downloaded the leaked version a week and a half ago. I had already placed my pre-order the week before, so I figured I could cave without guilt. This means I've been listening to it for 10 whole days. Yes, my friends, 10 whole freakin' days of GLORIOUS Metallica Thick Chunky Metal Music!
What do I think? HELL YEAH!!! That's what I think, fellow babies! I have to admit, it's a lot to take in the first few times around. Can those boys EVER write a simple little song? No fucking way, my friends. I'd already grown to love "The Day That Never Comes" since the release of the single - liking it the first time I heard it, in a few spots REALLY liking it - and that was to be the way of the whole album. Each time I hear one of the songs, I grow to love it more and more. I've been playing it in the car to and from work every day, windows down and volume cranked, scaring the mundanes all over the place. *LOL*
It's like... all the years of Metallica rolled up together and infused with the same youth and vigor of the early albums. No, it's not a remake of Puppets or Justice - not at all. It's that sound, flavoured with some of the funk and groove of the Loads, spiced with some of the in-your-face emotion of Anger, beefed up with the chunk-a-chunk heavy of the Black Album and wrapped up with a joyous maturity that tells me the boys are having one helluva good time.
I'M LOVING THIS RECORD!
My highlights so far? I'm feeling particular love for "The Judas Kiss" today (it's all about a couple of those drum bits). "Broken, Beat & Scarred" just screams out for me write fic. And I have no words to explain how I feel about "The Unforgiven III" except for... I die a good little death each time I hear it.
It just gets awesommer and awesommer (I don't care, it's a word to me!) each time I listen and I'm feeling SUCH envy for my flisties who are going to see the boys over in England - you KNOW who you are. *grin*
Summing up - this record KICKS MAJOR ASS! I knew my Met boys wouldn't let me down and by God, they did not!
And yes, my pre-ordered physical CD arriving today, as promised, was the icing on the cake. I'm a happy, happy Met fan!
*grin*
