It makes me chuckle...
Sep. 30th, 2007 07:04 pmI'm watching the discussion over at
hector_rashbaum's on the Organization for Transformative Work for most of the day and the what I'd term as navel-gazing in the comments keeps tickling my funny bone.
This group states that it is creating an archive for ALL OF FANDOM inclusively.
Okay... 'cept that fan-fiction is only a small portion of ALL OF FANDOM. And I don't care if we're talking media fandom (TV & movies), literary fandom (books), comic and anime fandom, real person (celebrity) fandom (would that be what we'd term it?) - fan-fiction is NOT the "be all and end all" of fandom, folks. Far from it! Fanfic writers are far from the majority in any fandom from what I've been able to tell over the past twenty-some years.
Anyway, that, amongst other things about this discussion, tickles my funny bone. Reminds of my days on the Con*cept con-com and the *ahem* discussions between media and literary fans and which was the fandom that should be catered to in order for the con to break even.
Here's the link to the excellent post on Hector's journal in case you're curious.
